@Erik: I was also pretty surprised that they do it manually. I’d love to talk to one of their operations people; I bet systems/operations engineers are valued quite highly at Netflix.

A little over a week ago, a team reported a 10.05% increase in recommendation algorithm.

Also, interesting to see the size of the warehouse. I had heard a rumor that no people were necessary for the physical distribution of the netflix disks (other than the mail). I guess thats false. Too bad, I kinda liked it that way before

Our conversation tonight reminded me to check out your blog again. I’m pleased to see that you decided to blog about our little mixtape exchange.

I’m pleasantly surprised that you liked the Cocteau Twins that much- they were one of the bands I was less sure about. Also, I saw on Last.fm that you listened to some weird album by The Fall. You should listen to “Hex Enduction Hour” or “This Nation’s Saving Grace” instead. Admittedly, those are the only two I’ve heard by them but they’re both great.

Oh and I might as well tell you here that I’ve really enjoyed the Electrelane album and my first listen through the Holy Fuck album was very promising.

I’m not sharing the actual files because I believe it crosses the line of “unauthorized public distribution.” Yeah, it’s a gray area and I’m not really worried about getting in trouble; it’s just a personal decision.
